We currently have an opening at our Foothill Ranch, CA (Orange County) facility for a Senior Engineer of Battery Systems. The Senior Engineer of Battery Systems will be responsible for battery system design and requirements definition, in order to achieve powertrain and vehicle performance targets. In addition to, direct the design, prototype and manufacture of battery modules and packs in a high performance R&D team. This is a full-time position with a rich comp package.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of HV and LV battery system requirements.
  • Coordinate system simulation, component sizing to support requirement definition.
  • Modeling of battery system performance, life, and/or safety.
  • Thermal design of battery systems for passive, forced air and liquid cooling.
  • Responsible for HV battery system architecture design.
  • Optimization of designs for cost reduction and performance enhancements.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of system level functional safety requirements (ISO 26262) of HV battery.
  • Lead project feasibility study and benchmarking.
  • Lead system level DFMEAs.
  • Lead system level troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Support the development of BMS functional requirements.
  • Support program manager in project planning and tracking.
  • Support DRE in component design and sourcing.

 

Required Skills:

  • More than 3 years\u0027 experience in battery systems and Li-Ion batteries, with good understanding of HV battery architecture, performance, health, safety, temperature sensing, current sensing, power switching, fusing, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and electrical connectivity preferred.
  • Experience in mechanical and thermal FEA analysis.
  • 5 - 7 years minimum related experience in industry.
  • Background in automotive system and component engineering.
  • Knowledge of electric and hybrid vehicle powertrain and interface between systems/components.
  • Understanding of the systems engineering process and a proven track record in the development and validation of complex multidisciplinary systems.
  • Ability to translate vehicle system customer facing requirements to the battery system using a broad based understanding of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experienced on functional safety (ISO 26262) process and workforce.
  • Experience with DFMEA and Functional Safety analysis for automotive electronics products.
  • Experienced with Matlab/Simulink.

Education:

  • BS. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electrochemical Engineering, or related field.
