Senior Engineer - Battery Electronics is an integral part of our Electronics & Electrical Systems product development organization. This position supports our Power Tools Group based in Towson, MD and involves working closely with several other functions such as Marketing, Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability and Regulatory. The ideal candidate will be an individual with interest in designing electronic control systems for lithium batteries and a passion for problem solving and debugging. Within the battery pack electronics team, you will be actively involved in all phases of a product life-cycle, from initial determination of requirements and design to building and testing functional prototypes to assisting in ensuring a manufacturable product. Job responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Think critically and distinguish between good and questionable results
  • Troubleshoot analog circuitry to root cause on a lab bench
  • Assist in the design and development of electronic hardware and specifications for lithium battery management systems (BMS)
  • Provide support in evaluating alternative components to help reduce overall product cost
  • Develop hardware verification and validation procedures that include unit and integration testing
  • Ensure that appropriate documentation is maintained for work performed
  • Execute sub circuit validation plans under the direction of team leaders
  • Embrace cross functional teamwork
  • Perform electronic stack ups for BMS designs
  • Interact with firmware group where applicable
  •  Qualifications:

  • BSEE or equivalent (4 years) from accredited computer/electrical engineering college
  • 3-5 years of experience in research/product development of electronics hardware
  • Understand how basic electrical circuits function, such as op amp configurations, FET and BJT applications, voltage dividers, etc.
  • Basic understanding of switch mode power supplies is a plus
  • Understand how to use the basic functions of lab equipment such as a multimeter, oscilloscope, and power supplies
  • Be able to effectively communicate ideas to others in a way that is understood and can be applied
  • Foster and maintain a high level of integrity in all aspects of work.
  • Openness to travel and/or interface with overseas electronic contract manufacturers and provide technical direction to obtain quality electronics assemblies for battery production 
  • Ability to handle 2-3 concurrent projects
  • Experience with a schematic designer computer program
  • Demonstration of leadership in a group, project, or extracurricular setting
  • Knowledge of a simulation program like LTspice is a plus
  • Experience directing technician work and mentoring junior engineers is a plus
