We have an opening for a Battery Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in the Tactical Space organization. This position will be located in Gilbert, AZ.
In this role you will specify needed lithium-ion battery assets and support design, development, test, and delivery of the assets from an external supplier. Once received, support will include storage, handling, monitoring, and maintenance of the assets in our Battery Test Work Center (BTWC). You will design electrical equipment, facilities, and systems for standalone battery maintenance as well as on -orbit application.
While the position is considered normal working hours, some shift work may be required to support testing.
- Responsible for technical, cost and schedule performance for a variety of space-flight battery development and procurement efforts via an external supplier.
- Complete battery analysis to support selection of hardware and application on the spacecraft for on-orbit performance
- Participate in pre-proposal cost and technical assessments. Participate in internal customer and external subcontract design reviews.
- Participate in internal customer and external subcontract design reviews.
- Assist in establishing written best practices, guidelines, procedures and instructions for proper handing and test of batteries on the ground and on orbit.
- Perform routine technical functions related to the support of development engineering activities such as design, test, checkout, fabrication, modification, and assembly of electrical support equipment for battery testing.
- Work from schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform routine testing, checkout, troubleshooting, and simple developmental engineering tasks.
- Performs routine operational tests on Lithium-Ion Batteries to ensure conformance with design specifications.
- Diagnoses and isolate malfunctions during battery testing both on and off the spacecraft.
This position can be filled at either the Engineer (level 2) or Principal Engineer level (level 3).
Basic Qualifications:
Engineer:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (preferably Electrical Engineering) with 2 yrs. of experience; or a Master’s Degree; or a PhD
- Excellent record keeping and data organization skills
- Experience leading hardware testing
- Experience with troubleshooting and resolution of test anomalies
- US Citizenship
Principal Engineer:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field (preferably Electrical Engineering) with 5 yrs. of experience; Master’s Degree with 3 yrs. of experience, or a PhD
- Excellent record keeping and data organization skills
- Experience leading hardware testing
- Experience with troubleshooting and resolution of test anomalies
- US Citizenship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Some experience with building and maintaining databases (Microsoft Access or similar)
- Experience with Lithium-Ion Batteries
- Experience managing inventory
