Job Title: Battery TechnicianPay Rate and Hours: $24.00-$30.00/hour, 1st Shift M-FLocation: Albany branchJob Summary: Maintain, inspect, diagnose, install, repair, clean, and replace various types of industrial batteries and charges used in material handling equipment. Perform repair and planned maintenance work on batteries and charges or related equipment ensuring service meets all customer, business, and quality standards and requirements per Thompson & Johnson.Duties: Perform equipment diagnostics and repairs on a variety of batteries utilizing ferro-resonant, SCR, and high-frequency technology chargers. Tasks include, but are not limited to: cell replacements, cable repairs, connector and contact tip replacements on customer and rental equipment.Execute planned maintenance agreements, including battery inspections, battery watering, battery washing, and recording of cell voltages and specific gravities. Conduct charger inspections and perform calibrations, and adjustments, as necessary. Coordinate problem resolution with Technical Support, Customer Service, Sales, and other personnel as needed to expedite repairs.Install and/or assist in the installation of batteries, chargers, battery/charger stands, battery handling systems, multi-level battery racking systems, man-on-board battery changers, battery monitoring systems, and battery watering systems.Evaluate and maintain battery handling equipment and accessories including battery changers, battery wash cabinets, battery watering systems, electronic battery rotations systems, and battery monitoring systems.Complete and maintain accurate records for all service orders, PM worksheets, time cards, and any other documentation as required, in an accurate and timely manner.Maintain personal work space in a clean and orderly condition in accordance with departmental procedures and Company and industry safety regulations. Take ownership of all company assets, including but not limited to vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment.Desired Knowledge/Skills: Possession of a high school diploma (or GED) is required. An AAS Degree or Tech School is strongly desired. Demonstrated basic understanding of AC and DC circuits, strong mechanical aptitude and computer skills is required. Technical training, general maintenance, mechanical, or electrical experience is desired.•Must be able to safely operate power tools, lifts, hoists, hydraulic jacks and material handling equipment.•Ability to learn to use oxygen/acetylene torch safely and effectively.•Ability to handle energized equipment (cells, batteries, and chargers) safely.•Ability to work independently using effective organizational and time management skills with minimum direction.•Strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills to gather data, compile information, and prepare routine paperwork.•Able to communicate professionally verbally and in writing.•Ability to travel ground and occasionally by air.Incumbent will complete and maintain current forklift certification.
