I recently worked as an associate for a small private equity firm that specialized in energy M&A transactions. My work focused on the acquisition and development of energy assets - primarily traditional fossil fuel-fired power plants. I began work at Abatis supporting the due diligence process for acquiring these and later moved into a position where I was solely responsible for the pricing/modeling of these extremely complex transactions. Having no previous background in finance, I mastered a steep learning curve and became responsible for developing sophisticated, flexible, comprehensive and user-friendly financial models to provide management with an investment recommendation for the asset’s acquisition and/or development. Through my experience I gained a broad and deep familiarity with valuation techniques, financing structures and energy markets and proved my ability to adapt and learn quickly in a fast-paced, mercurial environment.

During my undegraduate study at Columbia, I took graduate level courses in energy sources and conversion and had the opportunity to work on a really fantastic biodiesel research project with a group of undergraduate students. In short, we retrofitted a Lister engine to run off unprocessed vegetable oil with the hopes of providing a stand-alone method of electricity production to rural areas in Africa and India that have no direct access to traditional fuel sources. This research and coursework definitively sparked my interest in the mechanics and economics of energy production.

I am looking to leverage my former education, research, and work experience and make a transition into the clean energy industry. Specifically, I am interested in the emerging technology underlying renewable energy production and the demand/consumption response that the commercial and residential sectors can implement to reduce energy demand.
